Give A Vintage Soft Feel To Your New T-Shirts

Have you ever wondered how to get that comfy used t-shirt feel without having to wear it day-in and day-out for years? Wordans has found a great solution for you – brine your shirt.

Yes it may sound a little odd at first since brining is usually something done to food and not clothing. Although, trust us it really works and you’ll be amazed once you try it that you may end up doing it to all your t-shirts.

Through the brining process, the fibers in your new t-shirt will become less itchy, stiff and starchy and will take on a super comfortable vintage soft feel.

If you are worried that the colours will bleed into each other ruining your t-shirt, worry not as the process does not affect the printed ink on the shirt.

Here is what you’ll need to brine your t-shirt:

  • 1 Plastic tub (something comparable to fit the liquid)
  • 1 Large pot to boil ingredients
  • 4 cups of water
  • ½ cup of salt
  • ½ cup of baking soda (if in mass quantity up to a 1 full cup only needed)

Start by combining salt, baking soda and water into the large pot. Bring to a boil. Allow simmering for about 3-5 minutes. Turn off heat. Allow the liquid to cool completely before transferring it to the large container.

Flip your t- shirts inside out, and layer them into the brine. Allow them to brine for a minimum of 5 days (longer if you want them softer) stirring them once a day. This step will require some high levels patience since you most likely itching with excitement to show off your newly altered threads to your friends.

After the brining period, wring out your t-shirts and rinse them with warm water in the sink. Wash them as usual, and dry on high heat.

Now you can enjoy your brand new, vintage soft t-shirt… You may never want to take it off again!
